Every treatment, in plain words

What it is, why it helps and what it feels like. Read it together with your child, or skip to the one you need.

Every 6 months

How often we like to see kids for a check-up and clean.

Tooth-coloured

Fillings that blend in with their smile.

First visits

From the first tooth.

What it is
A short, gentle visit to meet us, have a look around, ride in the chair and take a quick look at their teeth.
Why it helps
It makes the dentist a familiar, friendly place before anything ever needs doing, and it lets us spot anything early.
What it feels like
Like an outing. Most of it is looking, talking and the chair ride, with you right there.

Check-ups and cleans

Every six months.

What it is
A careful look at every tooth and the gums, then a clean and polish to remove the build-up that brushing misses.
Why it helps
Regular check-ups catch small things while they're small, and keep their teeth clean and strong between visits.
What it feels like
Ticklish more than anything. The polish buzzes a little and they'll feel how smooth their teeth are afterwards.

Fillings

Tooth-coloured fillings.

What it is
When decay makes a small hole in a tooth, we clean it out and fill it with a tooth-coloured material that matches their smile.
Why it helps
Filling a hole early stops decay from spreading further into the tooth, so it stays strong for chewing and smiling.
What it feels like
We explain each step as we go, and check in with your child the whole way through. Nervous kids can ask for a longer appointment.

Fissure sealants

Protecting back teeth.

What it is
A thin protective coating painted into the deep grooves on the chewing surfaces of back teeth.
Why it helps
Those grooves are where food and bacteria like to hide. Sealing them makes back teeth easier to keep clean.
What it feels like
It's painted on and set hard, so it's quick and quiet, and there's usually no drilling at all.

Sports mouthguards

Custom fitted.

What it is
A mouthguard made to fit your child's own teeth, for footy, netball, hockey, basketball and any sport with knocks.
Why it helps
A guard that fits properly stays in place and is comfortable enough that they'll actually wear it.
What it feels like
We take a mould of their teeth, which feels like biting into soft dough for a minute. Then the guard is made to fit.

Not sure what they need?

Start with a check-up. We'll take a look and talk you through anything that's worth doing, in plain words.
