First visits · From the first tooth

First visits start with a ride in the chair

No rush and no surprises. A first visit is a look around, a chair ride and a gentle look at their teeth, with you right there in the room.

First tooth

The right time for a first visit is when teeth arrive.

You stay

Parents are always welcome in the room.

Step by step

What happens, from hello to high five

Tell your child about it on the way in. Knowing what comes next is half the bravery.

  1. Step 1: Have a look around

We start with a wander. Your child can see the room, meet the person looking after them and ask anything at all. Nothing happens until they're ready.

  2. Step 2: A ride in the chair

Up, down and back again. The chair ride is how every first visit here begins, and it turns the big chair into something fun.

  3. Step 3: A gentle look at their teeth

A quick, gentle look at their teeth and gums, with you close by the whole time.

  4. Step 4: Your turn to ask

We'll tell you what we saw, share a few tips for home, and answer whatever you're wondering about.

Tips for nervous kids

A few ways to make it feel easy

Lots of kids feel wobbly about a new place. These small things help, and if you think your child needs more time, ask for a longer appointment when you book.

  1. Tip 1

    Keep it simple and positive

Say you're going to count their teeth and ride in a special chair. Skip words like hurt or needle, even to say it won't.

  2. Tip 2

    Play dentist at home

Take turns counting each other's teeth with a toothbrush, then give a teddy a check-up too.

  3. Tip 3

    Read about it together

A picture book about visiting the dentist makes the real thing feel familiar.

  4. Tip 4

Pick a fresh time of day

Book when they're usually rested and fed, not straight after a big day.

  5. Tip 5

    Tell us when you book

If your child is nervous, let us know. We offer longer appointments for nervous kids, so we can take things slowly.
