Most plumbing and gas problems get a lot smaller once the supply is turned off. Here's how, then give us a call.
Is it an emergency?
If water or gas is escaping and you can't stop it, that's urgent. If it's annoying but contained, book a time that suits you.
The first five minutes
Only do what's safe for you. If anyone is in danger, call 000 first.
Turn off the water at the main. It's usually at the water meter near your front boundary.
Turn off your hot water system so it doesn't heat an empty tank.
If water is near power points or lights, switch off the power at the switchboard, but only if it's dry and safe to reach.
Move what you can out of the water, then call us.
A strong smell of gas is always urgent. Don't wait to see if it goes away.
Don't use flames, lighters or electrical switches, and don't start a car nearby.
Open doors and windows to let air through.
Turn off the gas at the meter if you can do it safely.
Leave the house and call the Jemena gas emergency line on 131 909, or 000 if there's danger. Then call us for the repair.
Stop using water anywhere in the house: no flushing, showers or washing machine.
Turn off the stop tap behind or beside the toilet.
Keep kids and pets away from any dirty water.
Call us and tell us where the water is coming up.
